I have a new favourite game for learning mixed times tables!
Start by drawing a grid which is roughly 7×8 squares.
Miss the bottom left corner, then write a number in each of the other numbers across the bottom row that you want to practice multiplying by.
Now, again missing the bottom left square, write a number in each square of the left-hand column going upwards.
Adapt these according to the ability of your child but remember this is supposed to be a game. Try not to make it too much of a challenge.
To win, you need to make a straight line of 4 squares. This line can be diagonal, vertical, or horizontal.
To claim your square, you need to multiply the number parallel to the square of your choice by the number underneath the square of your choice.
To claim this square, I would need to multiply 6×5.
Like in the official game of connect 4. Your counter will drop to the bottom. So, you will need to work from the bottom up.
I hope you enjoy the game as much as I do.
If you have a go, why not share who won with us and let us know what you think?
