How can you ensure your child not only keeps up but performs to the best of their abilities?

Every parent dreams of their child succeeding in school and beyond. But with the ever-increasing complexity of education, how can you ensure your child not only keeps up but performs to the best of their abilities?

The journey to academic success begins with access to quality resources. Instead of investing in costly textbooks that may skim over topics, We recommends utilising free SAT papers found online (such as those on WWW.sat-papers.co.uk). These past papers offer comprehensive practice that mirrors actual testing conditions—an invaluable tool for thorough preparation.

When using practice papers, resist the urge to dive straight into timed tests. Use them diagnostically first—to pinpoint weaknesses without pressure. Once identified, tackle these areas head-on with your child or communicate them to tutors who can help you accordingly.

Spelling Made Simple

Spelling can be daunting for many students—but it doesn’t have to be! Within its membership group, we update weekly spellings drawn from previous SAT papers and pairs this list with creative methods like word searches or hangman games that make learning stickier through fun!

Math Through Play

Who said math couldn’t be enjoyable? Games such as “Noughts and Crosses” transform solving mathematical problems into a competitive sport where claiming squares depends on correct answers—a twist on traditional study methods promoting both skill development and enjoyment.

Comprehension Beyond Reading

To deepen text comprehension skills, varied approaches are key—from playing the dotty board game that I have mentioned in other blogs to take the pressure off students while reading.

Keeping Engagement High

It’s crucial not only what we learn but how we learn it—the strategy makes all the difference between retention and forgetfulness. By incorporating diverse activities including physical movement or colourful notes alongside interactive games, you can ensure knowledge isn't merely memorised but deeply understood.

Practical support to get your child through their year 6 SATs

Our goal at Clara James Tutoring is to make learning fun and accessible to everyone. If children are engaged in what they are doing they are more likely to want to participate, if they are enjoying it, they are more likely to relax and retain the information.

If they are retaining the information it will help boost their knowledge and with knowledge comes confidence.

If you have a child who enjoys learning through games and being more creative, and you enjoy spending time with them, you might be interested in the Clara James Approach, the membership group we have put together to support you in supporting your primary school aged child with their maths and English.
