How much experience do you have?

How long have you been tutoring?

How long we have been tutoring varies from tutor to tutor. If you get in touch requesting support, we will listen to the support that you need and then pair you with a tutor that we think will be the best fit.

We will obviously give you the details of the tutor so that you can decide whether you think this will work.

The first lesson is always free, so if it doesn’t work (though I think there has only been once or twice in the past 12 years that it hasn’t) we will find you another tutor that is a better fit for what you want.

It’s taken a long time to build up our reputation and so I ensure that every tutor I recommend, now I do so with confidence.

Prior to starting Clara James Tutoring (initially Starr Tutoring; Starr was my maiden name), my back ground was both early years, then I gained an interest in dyslexia. At the same time as doing my degree I worked in a base for children who are autistic and can't cope in a mainstream school.

You can learn more about my philosophies on our about page: Clara James Tutoring About Us Page

Personally, I have worked in childcare and education for nearly since 2000. The whole business is based around the experience, training, influences I have gained over that time.

At the same time I strongly believe that if we work as a team within the company we can provide a far better support system. Every child is different, every situation is different, every tutor is different. By working as a team it means our combined efforts and experience is far longer and far more impactful.

My goal, is always to offer you the best possible support and to create a legacy where people will look back and think Clara James Tutoring changed my life.

For the past 20+ years I have been a firm believer that learning should be an enjoyable experience. I appreciate that traditionally education has revolved around worksheets, textbooks, listening to teachers. But a grounding in early years and working with children who had a variety of learning styles from I learned that it is an individual activity that is personal to all of us. We don’t all learn in the same way. Our influences, our experiences, our capabilities all influence how we retain information.
But through it all, I believe that if we can make it enjoyable and engaging, they will want to participate. With participation comes practice which in turn boosts skill and confidence. With an increase in skill and confidence comes a willingness to have a go. This in turn leads to more practice which leads to a positive spiral of success.
The moral, we need to make learning fun, engaging, use a range of techniques.
