How is this approach any different to any other?
How is the material tailored to different learning styles?
A lot of resources are focused on the child completing worksheets. Sometimes there will be images. Sometimes there will be colour, but ultimately, they are worksheets that you give your child to work through. Sometimes there will be an explanatory video but beyond that you are left to your own devises.
However, 20+ years ago when I started working in education and doing my degree, I became interested in how we learn. A lot of it was self-explanatory, but it had never registered until it was pointed out.
When our children are relaxed, they are more likely to take in the information that we share with them.
If we give them one resource to help them to learn something they will create one memory where they can go to find that piece of information when they need it.
However, if we give them a range of resources, we will help them to create multiple memories so that when they need to recall that piece of information, they have multiple places they can go to within their brains to find that piece of information. I have spoken about this frequently in other blogs so will try to keep this brief. But I will mention that the other advantage of games is that they are generally enjoyable.
If a child is enjoying themselves, they are more likely to be willing to participate. The more they participate the more practice they get. With practice comes ability and with ability comes confidence and with confidence comes a willingness to have a go.
Maybe as importantly, because games are fun, it means that you get to spend and create quality time with your child helping them to learn and become more confident in something that will help them in their journey through education in whatever form that takes.
