In January 2012 I sat down and wrote a profile that I felt
might be suitable if I was to become a tutor.

I had no idea. For 12 years I had worked in a huge variety
of childcare and educational settings, but tutoring was completely new to me.

A friend and I brainstormed what we would want from a tutor
for our own children. I then combined that with what I had learned through my
degree, various courses & qualifications I had completed, and the experience
I had.

I wrote about how I thought that children learned best when
they are relaxed. If they are enjoying themselves, they are more likely to
engage and the more they engage the more beneficial it will be. I wrote from
the heart and with the naivety of someone who had never done anything like this
before.

Within 6 months I left the job I was in and concentrated on
tutoring full-time. Within 18 months there was more work than I could handle by
myself.

Between then and now there have been so many twists and
turns, but the business has gone from strength to strength. There is now a team of 11 of us working in our local town under the Clara James umbrella and it is set to franchise.

We have a membership group for the parents of primary aged children which has the dual purpose of raising money for the charity that rescued our old dog Snow.

When I started the business, I never dreamt it would become
what it is today. The goal was to earn some extra money to fund school trips for my 3 kids and pay for family holidays for us, if I was lucky.

Clara James Tutoring has changed my life. I had no
confidence when I started this. I had never owned a business before, but I followed my gut, I learned, studied, read, and learned some more. I have had mentors and I have loved just about every minute of it.

Has it been easy?

No.

Has it been worth it?

Definitely.

Sometimes we want to do something but we don't know how. Other times we commit to something and then think 'what have I done?!'

Whichever court you are in we will help.

When I first started tutoring, I reached out to other tutors so that we could share ideas, support, and motivate each other. No one was interested. But I am still keen to nurture that idea and support others who are going through the steps that I went through back at the beginning. My goal is to provide you with a monthly bundle that you can use to help you to grow your tutoring business.

The moral support, ideas, Inspiration that you need to get started and then to grow.

There will be the Facebook community where we can support each other.

A monthly Q&A where I will be on hand to answer any questions that you may have. Additionally, there will be a new training bundle or resource that you can adapt in your own business. I am a firm believer that as a team we can support more children and do a far better job.
